Some of Ms. Spencer's comments: "Mr. Hulon Wiser, his wife Nell and myself went to the Wiser Cemetery in August 2002. The cemetery is two miles west of Havana on Highway 10. Then turn left on a country road and go about a mile toward a grove of huge trees. It is south of a gas well.
"There are 18 graves with headstones and 2 rocks. The 2 rocks mark the graves of 2 slaves that came with the Wisers from Tennessee.
"The Wiser Family buried in the cemetery is listed in the 1880, 1900, and 1910 Yell County Census in the Riley Township. The J.H. Walkup Family is listed on the 1870, 1880 and later years. The Julia A. (age 4) on the 1870 Census may be Julia E. who was the first person and only Walkup buried in the Wiser Cemetery.
"I don't understand the gap from Julia's death in 1870 to Eliza J. Wiser's death in 1884. That is a 14-year gap without any new headstones."
