John C. Carter gave this land for the Cemetery, also built a church but it is no longer there.

Updated directions! In Plainview, at Intersection 28 & 60, take Hwy. 60 for about 3.4 miles to the Carter Cove turn off. Just past the bridge, turn right up the hill to Carter Cove for about 0.4 of a mile. Take the first road that turns right. It is a sharp right turn. Then go about 0.1 of a mile to the cemetery. It is approximately 4 miles from Intersection 28 & 60 in Plainview to the Carter Cemetery in the Carter Cove Community.

The original version has been updated to include all of the additions and changes which were given to us by Ms. Gee Spencer and Ms. Nell Wiser of Plainview, AR.

I am deeply grateful to Ms. Spencer and Ms. Wiser for their hard work getting updated information for this cemetery. They spent many long hours checking each headstone in the cemetery, verifying the accuracy of the previous listings, and adding new information for more recent deaths.

Some of their comments: "The 2 Baby Flewellen stones have round home made stones that say BABY FLEWELLEN.

"Minnie Jane Stone married Charlie Owen. They share a double stone.

"In 2 months (Oct 2002), D.E. McCulloch will have been in the Carter Cemetery for 103 years. She is important because she could be someone's g.g.grandmother or could place a family in Yell Co. in 1899.

"Amanda E. Brooke, the first wife of W.T.W. Brooke, died 9 days after the birth and death of their only child. W.T.W. later married F.E. and had 4 more babies. They were born 1905, 1906, 1913, and 1915, and all 4 died. There is a 7-year gap between 1906 and 1913 (Wonder why?). W.T.W. has the largest stone in the cemetery. Very Large! There is no marker for a F.E. Brooke. Bet she remarried if still Living.

"The Rosienet Harkness stone caught my attention. She was 20 and married R.C. who was 43. He lived only 2 years after their marriage and died at the age of 45."
