Lunenburg Co., Deed Book 3.

2 May 1753. "To all to whom these Presents Shall come Jeremiah RUST" of Lunenburg Co., whom states indebtedness to William MONTGOMERY, assignee of David BELL, in the sum of 314 pounds 11 shillings and 11 pence, 3 farthings, current money of VA. For and towards the payment, Jeremiah RUST "Assigned Bargained and Sold" to William MONTGOMERY, assignee, to satisfy the debt and costs, all that he possesses for security and bond of debt. 3 May 1753. "To all to whom these Presents Shall come James JOHNSON" of Lunenburg Co., submits to arbitration a suit on a bond in Lunenburg court by William BYRD Esq., assignee of David BELL, for several unsettled accounts. 4 February 1754. This Indenture between Robert CHILDRESS of Lunenburg Co., and Samuel MORTON of the same. Robert CHILDRESS, for 11 pounds VA money, sold to Samuel MORTON a tract or parcel containing 100 acres on branches of Little Roanoak being part of land granted to CHILDRESS bearing patent date of 4 November 1750. 25 January 1755. This Indenture between John TOWNES, planter, of Lunenburg Co., of one part and William MARSHALL of Cumberland Co., and William TOWNES of Amelia County of the other part. John TOWNES, for 5 shillings VA money, "Bargained, Sold, Aliened, Enfeoffed and Confirmed" to William MARSHALL and William TOWNES one tract or parcel in Cumberland Parish, Lunenburg Co., containing 280 acres. Borders, Mathew HUBBARD's line on lower side of Little Roanoke River, PERREN's line, McGEE's line. Also another tract containing 450 acres in same Parish and County on Lickinghole Creek.......(torn but apparent borders) my three brothers Joel TOWNS, Daniel TOWNS and Stephen TOWNES already conveyed to them. Also Negro Slaves: Will, Peter, Joe and Bess. First tract formerly conveyed to Mathew HUBARDLY patient date in Williamsburgh 7 October 1752. 9 March 1756. This Indenture between William RANDOLPH of Hilton of Henrico Co., and Philip THOMAS of Cumberland Co. William RANDOLPH for 50 pounds sold to Philip THOMAS 400 acres on Cubb Creek. Lunenburg Co., Deed Book 7.

5 December 1760. This Indenture between James COCKE, of Lunenburg Co., Colony of Virginia, and Jonathan CUNINGHAM, of the same. For 70 pounds current money, James COCKE sold to Jonathan CUNINGHAM a parcel of land containing 250 acres. Description of land contains survey notes and mention of "a Small Branch." 5 March 1761. This Indenture between John HALL, of the Parish of Nottoway, in the county of Amelia, and George WALTON, of the Parish of Cumberland, in the County of Lunenburgh. John HALL, for 100 pounds VA money, sold 1300 acres in Cumberland Parish, Lunenburgh County on both sides of Little Creek. Formally granted to John HALL by patent in Secretary's Office and bounded according to the corners of the patent (not listed). Signed, John HALL. 26 March 1761. This Indenture between John HALL of Amelia Co., and Joseph PERRIN of Lunenburgh Co. John HALL for five shillings Sterling, sold to Joseph PERRIN 304 acres of land in Lunenburg Co., on the lower side of Twitty's Creek. Formerly granted to John HALL by patent. Beginning at the mouth of Twitty's Creek and up the branch to TWITTY'S corner. Contains survey. Signed, John HALL, LS. Witnesses, Daniel WINN, Thos. WINN, Lindal BACON, Gray BUGGS. 21 March 1762. This Indenture between John HALL of Amelia Co., and Lydale BACON of Lunenburg Co. John HALL, for 15 pounds in hand paid, sold to Lydal BACON 280 acres on the head branches of Reedy Creek. Borders, FARGUSON's line, WILLIAMS's line. Includes survey description. Signed John HALL, LS. 8 April 1762. This Indenture between Thomas WINN of Lunenburg Co., and John WINN of the same. For 20 pounds VA money, "bargained, sold, aliend, esfessed, confirmed" 772 acres on south sied of Lucking (Sucking) Creek. 8 April 1762. This Indenture between Thomas WINN, of Lunenburg Co., and John WINN, of the same. For 20 pounds, current money of VA, Thomas WINN sold to John WINN 762 acres on the south side of Sucking Creek. Robert BOULTON consideration of 9 pounds VA money sold to Nicolas BROWN 300 (?) acres, part of a greater quantity lying on the South or Lower side of Sucking creek in Lunenburg Co. 9 September 1763. This Indenture between Stephen EVANS, of Lunenburg Co., and James HALL of Amelia Co. Stephen EVANS, for 150 pounds VA money, sold to James HALL 905 ACRES Council Granted to EVANS by patient date of 4 July 1759, lying on the south side of middle fork of Bluestone Creek. 10 June 1771. This Indenture between Robert BURTON of Mecklenburg Co., and James HALL of the same. Robert BURTON for 250 pounds VA money, "Bargained Sold aliend and Confirmed unto" James HALL a tract or parcel of land that BURTON bought from James and John MURSAY'S containing 406 acres. 13 April 1772. This Indenture between James HALL of Mecklenburg and John JEFFRIES of the same. James HALL for the full sum of 300 pounds VA money "give Granted Bargain'd & sold" and, "give Grant bargain Alien Release & Confirm" to John JEFFRIES a tract or parcel on west side of "Middle Blewstone Creek" containing 635 acres. 13 April 1774. This Indenture between John FLYN of Mecklenburg Co., VA and Ryon, his wife, and James HALL of same. John FLYN and Ryon, his wife, for 112 pounds VA money, "granted, bargained and Sell Alien Enfeoff Confirm and firmly make Over unto" to James HALL a tract or parcel on north side of Blew Stone Creek containing 181 acres. Borders, "Blew Stone Creek", William BYRD, John COX, middle (Blue Stone) Creek and again "great Blew Stone Creek." Land being part of a larger quantity that John THOMPSON purchased of Drewy STITH, Henry MORRIS, and Michael YOUNG. And the aforesaid quantity conveyed from John THOMPSON to John FLYN by deed dated 7 April 1752. Signed, John FLYN and Ryon (her) + (mark) FLYN. Wit: John JEFFERIES, John COX, Boling COX. 1 July 1773. This Indenture between John SMITH of Mecklenburg Co., VA and William HALL of the same. John SMITH for 70 pounds VA money granted, bargained and sold to William HALL a tract containing 240 acres. Land is only described by measure with a creek not named. No names mentioned on borders. Signed, John SMITH. Witnesses mentioned but not listed. Memorandum of quiet and peaceable possession same date and sig., no wit's stated. Recorded 12 July 1773, pg. 109.

10 October 1774. An Indenture and memorandum of livery and siezen endorsed by John FLINN to James HALL, was proved by the oaths of the witnesses and ordered recorded. Pg. 290.

11 November 1774. Martha HALL, wife of James HALL, personally appeared in court and relinquished her right of dower in lands conveyed by her husband to John Jefferies. Pg. 293.

11 November 1774. An Indenture and memorandum of livery and seizen thereon endorsed John FLINN to James HALL. Rion, wife of John personally appeared and relinquished her right of dower. Pg. 294.

13 April 1778. An Indenture of bargain and sale between Howell COLLIER & Hannah, his wife to John HALL was acknowledged by HOWELL and ordered recorded. Pg. 398.

15 July 1778. Notice of Lawful Attorney. Daniel NANCE of Mecklenburg Co., appoints Henry DELANNY of same, to be lawful attorney to recover from Thomas HALL of North Carolina, "County of Bute" or any other persons in possession of "five Negroes," Nan, Suck, Sale, Tom and Bart (?). 5 August 1778. This Indenture between Christopher ROWLAND of Mecklenburg Co., and John WILSON of the same. Christopher ROLAND for 200 pounds does "acknowledge himself fully and entirely sattisfied," and "given, granted, bargained, sold, alienated Released and discharged" to John WILSON, a tract on north side of Bluestone Creek containing 63 acres. 11 October 1779. An Indenture of bargain and sale between Zachariah BEVILL and William HALL was acknowledged by Zachariah BEVILL and ordered recorded. Hannah BEVILL, wife of Zachariah personally appeared and relinquished her right of dower. Pg. 521.

8 November 1776. Indenture between Joseph ROYSTER of Mecklenburg Co., and Christopher ROWLAND of same. Joseph ROYSTER For 38 pounds 11 shillings and 3 pence VA money, "doth hereby acknowledge himself fully & entirely satisfied" and "given granted bargained and sold alienated released & discharged" sold to Christopher ROWLAND a tract on on north side of Bluestone Creek containing 63 acres. 28 November 1776. This Indenture between Joseph ROYSTER of Mecklenburg Co., and James HALL of the same. Joseph ROYSTER, for 21 pounds VA money, sold a parcel or tract of land on the Northside of Bluestone Creek containing 42 acres. It being part of land said Royster purchased of Sir Peyton SHIPWORTH. Borders HALL's corner and line south and great Bluestone Creek. Gives survey notes but no other border names. Signed, Joseph ROYSTER, LS. 28 November 1776. This Indenture between Joseph ROYSTER of Mecklenburg Co., St. James Parish, and John WILSON of same. Joseph ROYSTER for 430 pounds "Discharge and aquit" John WILSON and "bargained sold enfeoffed remised released and confirmed" on Great and Little Bluestone containing 300 acres. Borders, Little Bluestone Creek, SIDDERDALE (?), MULKINS (WILKINS?), Long branch joining Chrisopher ROWLAND, Great Bluestone Creek, Peyton SHIPWORTH's mill dam. Signed, Joseph ROYSTER. 8 December 1777. This Indenture between James HALL of Mecklenburg Co., and Alexander GORDON of the same. James HALL, for 350 pounds VA money, sold to Alexander GORDON that tract or parcel of land that he, HALL, bought of Robert BURTON lying in Mecklenburg Co., containing 406 acres. 10 January 1778. This Indenture between Howell COLLIER, and Hannah his wife, of Mecklenburg Co., and John HALL of the same. Howell COLLIER, for 60 pounds VA money, sold to John HALL a certain tract or parcel of land bounded by John BROWN's corner... (deed continues with survey notes and two other mentions for BROWN)....containing 300 acres. Signed, Howell COLLIER, LS, and Hannah COLLIER, LS. 12 January 1778. This Indenture between William HALL, of Mecklenburg Co., and William COMER of the same. William HALL, for 24 pounds VA money, sold to William COMER, a parcel of land on Bluestone Creek and Anderson's branch. Borders, Anderson's branch in Henry WHITLOW's line, Bluestone Creek, Leonard CHEATHAM's line, Richard ROWLAND's line, James WHITLOW's line, and Henry WHITLOW's line. Signed, William HALL. 9 March 1778. This Indenture between John HUBBARD of Mecklenburg Co., and John BRAME of same. For 450 pounds VA money, John HUBBARD sold to John BRANE 474 acres. Henry ROBERTSON for 52 pounds 10 shillings VA money "granted bargained and sold aliened enfeossed and confirmed, tract containing 250 acres in Mecklenburg Co., on waters of Bluestone Creek and Anderson's swamp. Borders, said creek on John WILSON's line, John LYNCH's line, Benjamin PULLIAM's line, Caleb (?) JOHNSON's line and little Bluestone Creek. Signed, Field MOORE, LS. Sarah (her) + (mark) MOORE, LS. 14 December 1778. This Indenture between James HALL, of the one part, and Patterson PULLIAM and his wife Sarah, both of Mecklenburg Co., of the other part. For 150 pounds money of the commonwealth paid by James HALL to PULLIAM and his wife, Sarah, they sold and relinquish all the right, tittle, and property to her right arising by virtue of her former husband. 9 October 1779. This Indenture between Zachariah BEVILL, of Mecklenburg Co., and William HALL, of the same. Zachariah BEVILL, for 100 pounds VA money, sold to William HALL, 15 acres. Borders, Robert READER, and Hugh FRANKLIN. Signed, Zachariah (his) + (mark) BEVILL, LS. No witnesses mentioned. Recorded and acknowledged by Zachariah BEVILL with dower release by Hannah BEVILL, his wife, 11 October 1779 pg 494 (NOTE, the money paid and land received do not appear to be correct. I would judge that the money is incorrect).

9 October 1779. This Indenture between John HALL of Mecklenburg Co., and Robert JOHNSON of the same. John HALL, for 20 pounds VA money, sold to Robert JOHNSON, a tract on Evenesses Creek containing 100 acres. 10 December 1782. Theodrick HALL assignee of John WAGNON, plaintiff, against Tandy WALKER, defendant in debt. Thomas SHIP noted as part of this debt. Defendant arrested was solemnly called and not appearing. 10 December 1783. Theodrick HALL assignee of John WAGNON, against Tandy WALKER, defendant in debt. Came the plaintiff by his attorney and defendant again being again solemnly called came not but made default. Ordered by the court that plaintiff recover against the defendant and Thomas SHIP the security for his appearance of 15 pounds per wit in declaration and costs. Pg. 483.

13 April 1784. Theodrick HALL against Tandy WALKER and Silvanus WALKER. Defendants not appearing, it is ordered that plaintiff recover against the defendants 35 pounds 7 shillings and 4 pence for penalty of a Bond and costs. Judgement discharged by payment of 17 pounds 13 shillings and 8 pence with 5% interest from 1 January 1784 till payment. Pg. 534.

27 November 1779. This Indenture between James HALL and Marthew HALL, his wife, of Mecklenburg Co., and William LUCAS of Gurmy* County in the Province of Maryland. James and Marthew HALL, for 50 pounds VA money, sold to William LUCAS a parcel of land lying on middle Bluestone Creek containing 300 acres. Part of 935 acres granted by patent to Stephen EVAN's and now deeded to James HALL. Borders, HALL line, William HARRIS, Joel ELAM, Abraham CROWDER's corner, Henry HASTEN, Mark MOORE, and James HALL. Signed, James HALL, LS. ___** LS. Witnesses, Jeremiah LAMKIN, James (his) ++ (mark) HARRISON, Thomas (his) + (mark) WILBURN. Memorandum for peaceable possession same date. Signed James HALL, LS. Same witnesses. Acknowledged by James HALL and recorded 14 February 1780, pg 4. (Notes, * Unable to locate a county in Maryland by this name at this writing. ** The deed has a legal seal without a name listed which should be Marthew HALL)

12 November 1781. This Indenture between Henry WHITLOW of Mecklenburg Co., and William HALL, same county. Henry WHITLOW, for 20 pounds, sold to William HALL, a parcel containing 40 acres on the brances of Butchers Creek. Borders, said WHITLOW's plantation on said HALL's line, Henry SPEED, SPEED's and HALL's corner, HALL's line. Signed, Henry WHITLOW, LS. Witnesses, Harmon THOMPSON, Ambros HALL, M__* THOMPSON. Acknowledged by Henry WHITLOW and recorded 12 November 1871, pg 151. (Note*, the recorder apparently could not figure the spelling for the name and left a blank space between the first and last name)

31 August 1782. This Indenture between Henry WHITLOW of Mecklenburg Co., and Cox WHITLOW of the same. Henry WHITLOW for "Value Received" sold Cox WHITLOW a tract joining said Henry WHITLOW containing 6 acres. Borders, Henry SPEED, Nicholas WHITLOW and William HALL. Signed Henry (his) X (mark) WHITLOW. Wit: John COX, Francis (his) X (mark) WHITLOW, Elezabeth COX, Martin GLASPY, Hutchens BURTON. Recorded and proven by oaths of John COX, Martin GLASPY and Hutchens BURTON on 9 December 1782, pg 217.

20 September 1783. Indenture between John INGRAM of Brunswick Co., and John HARRIS of Mecklenburg Co. John INGRAM for 50 pounds VA money, "granted bargained sold aliens enfeoffed (?) and confirmed" to John HARRIS 135 acres in Mecklenburg Co. Borders, STRANGE, CLAY, HARRIS. Signed John INGRAM. Wit: Zachariah HALL, John HALL, Isaac EDWARDS. Recorded 10 May 1784 pg 390. Teste, John BROWN, CC.

13 December 1784. This Indenture between William HALL, of Mecklenburg Co., and Adam FINCH, of Charlotte Co. William HALL, for 500 pounds VA money, sold to Adam FINCH, a tract on great bluestone Creek containing 210 acres. Borders, said Bluestone on SPEED's line, Cox WHITLOW, Anderson's branch adjoining Field MOORE's line. Signed, William HALL. Witnesses not named. Recorded 13 December 1784, pg 433.

13 December 1784. This Indenture between William HALL and Ambros HALL, both of Mecklenburg Co. William HALL for 50 pounds VA money, sold to Ambros HALL, a tract on middle bluestone Creek. Borders, Hugh FRANKLIN,'s line near Isaac SPRING, widow REDERS line. Signed Wm HALL, LS. No witnesses mentioned. Acknowledged by William HALL with dower release by his wife, Francis HALL, and recorded 13 December 1784, pg 434.

13 December 1784. This Indenture made between Cox WHITLOW of Mecklenburg Co., and William HALL of same. WHITLOW sells to HALL for 100 pounds, "doth grant bargain sell alien and confirm unto William" HALL a tract on " the heads of the branch of great Bluestone Creek," 30 acres + -. Borders, Henry SPEED, William HALL, Cox WHITLOW. Signed, Cox (his) X (mark) WHITLOW. Recorded 13 December 1784, pg 432.

6 July 1785. Commonwealth of VA to Christopher McCONNIEO, Peter EPPS, John SHORE and Isaac HALL. William CALL by his certain indenture made 26 March 1884, has sold and conveyed unto (?) MARSHALL and Henry MOODS Jr., the fee simple estate of land in 1,?42 acres in Mecklenburg Co. Elizabeth, wife of said William is unable to travel to the court of said county to relinquish her dower in the estate. She is willing to relinquish her dower and commands you to come to the said Elizabeth to do so. Writ witness by John BROWN, Clerk of Court. W BASKERVILLE, (faded initials).
