This receipt for cotton was to my great grandfather, Abel Pennington Wilson, from a representative of the Confederate States of America. A copy of the document is also shown below the transcription.
The Confederate States
I, A.G. Hightower, hereby certify that I have this day received forty bales of cotton of the average weight of four hundered and fifty pounds belonging to A.P. Wilson of Drew County, State of Arkansas. Done by order of Benj. Collins cotton agent for Drew County, Ark. June 26, 1862.
